Utah Antelope Hunting 2025

Since Utah adjusted its antelope management and started issuing more tags a few years ago, the average buck size has slightly decreased across the board. However, the quality hasn’t dropped significantly, and there are still some excellent bucks available. Utah’s approach aims for 100% harvest opportunity, making the hunts still quite good, though trophy quality typically falls in the 65-75” range, with occasional exceptions. Most hunts offer plenty of animals, requiring patience and restraint on the trigger. We’ve highlighted the units with slightly better trophy potential, but the difference between units is minimal.

While we don’t list every non-resident unit, we’ve included those offering great experiences and solid trophy opportunities. Harvest success generally hovers around 100%, with most rifle hunts taking just a couple of days. One standout feature of Utah is its offering of all three weapon choices in most units. Muzzleloader hunts, in particular, are underrated for trophy potential, though removing scopes last year could yield lower harvest success. Archery hunts also surprise with a high success rate and typically better draw odds than rifle hunts.

Most antelope herds in Utah are at or above population objectives and remain strong. All buck hunts occur early in the season, in August and September, and outside of archery, antelope are typically rutting. If you’re already applying for other species in Utah, consider building points for antelope as well.

UNIT COMMENTS
Book Cliffs, Bitter Creek NE UT lower-elevation rolling clay hills with short sage/grass. Abundant public land and oil-gas roads. Good antelope pop & buck:doe; mostly 70–75" bucks with occasional 78"+.
Book Cliffs, South E UT low-elevation rolling clay hills, desert shrubs, grasses. Excellent public/ATV access. Strong population, 75–78" potential. Challenging spot-stalk—focus on scarce waterholes in archery.
Diamond Mtn/Bonanza NE UT south half in oil-gas public lands; high desert sage/brush terrain south of Hwy 40. Private land north. Many roads. 75–78" buck chance.
Fillmore, Oak Creek South Central UT low desert—pinyon/juniper ridges, volcanic mesas, ag fields. Solid but reduced pop; best at guzzlers/cattle tanks early season. Most bucks mid-70s; private land access often needed.
La Sal, Potash/South Cisco SE UT desert unit; rough 2-track roads, arid habitat. Declining pop; antelope concentrate around dirt tanks/wash seeps. 70–75" potential; low pressure.
Mt. Dutton/Paunsaugunt SC UT open sage, rabbitbrush, grasslands along Hwy 12 and John’s Valley. Public land with pockets of private. Pop & quality down; 70–75" potential. Bowhunters on stock ponds; spot-stalk southern Dutton & Paunsaugunt ponderosa.
Nine Mile, Anthro-Myton Bench EC UT public BLM clay breaks & pinyon/juniper treatment areas south of reservation. Great pop; 75"+ potential. Oil-gas road network & isolated waters make this high-success spot-stalk.
North Slope, Three Corners/West Daggett NE UT high-desert sage basins near Flaming Gorge. Pop below objective but decent numbers in roadless areas. Public land; average bucks 70–75".
Panguitch Lake/Zion, North Central UT sage/grass between Hatch–Panguitch & FH 050 to Duck Creek. New BLM treatments improving habitat; quality underperforming. 70–75" potential.
Parker Mtn SC UT rolling sagebrush hills with dirt tanks & scattered timber pockets. Pop & quality rising; mid-upper 70s bucks harvested. Public land majority; tanks are key.
Pine Valley SW UT, mainly north of Hwy 56. Desert shrub flats & ag lands. Pop slightly declined; 70" with occasional mid-70s. Flat terrain makes spot-stalk archery tough.
San Rafael, North Central UT desert flats, mesas, rolling sage, pinyon/juniper pockets. Good roads/ATV trails for glassing knobs. Pop scattered; fewer 80" bucks. Spot-stalk & water sits work well.
Southwest Desert SW UT open sage valleys in Hamlin, Pine, Wah Wah Valleys & Escalante Desert. Growing pop; 80" chance. Remote north of Hwy 21 sees little pressure. Public land, tanks & guzzlers key.
Vernal NE UT oil‐gas fields south unit; low density but low tags mean light pressure. Public land with reservation/ag restrictions. Guzzlers draw antelope; wide area coverage needed.
West Desert, Riverbed WC UT between Rush & Snake Valleys. Vast deserts & sage steppe; good dirt/two-track access. Higher pop than other West Desert units; focus on waterholes. 75"+ bucks possible.
West Desert, Rush Valley W UT east of Riverbed—public land, good roads. Sage flats & steppe; low pop but good potential. Moisture‐dependent; hunt water sources. 75" antelope available.
West Desert, Snake Valley WC UT on NV border. Remote desert shrub valleys; camp in‐unit. Decent pop, 75"+ potential. Limited water concentrates antelope at waterholes/ag fields. Public land, good access.
