Description
This HFA Endorsed Outfitters offers a 10 day sheep hunt in the high country of the Yukon province of Canada. Sheep hunting is seen as the pinnacle of hunting for most avid hunters. These hunts take place well above 4000' in rugged terrain. Anyone looking to take down an Dall/Fannin sheep should be in excellent condition to accommodate this terrain.
Fannin sheep throughout their area have a wide range of color. Some of the sheep are quite dark and even the lighter sheep almost all have a black tail. Later in the season the colouring gets darker as the hair gets longer. You will be seeking to harvest older Rams, with an age around 10 years and an average length of horn 37".
Success rates for these sheep hunts is about 75% on average, however the success rate for sheep increases to 90% for hunters who are in good physical condition. The majority of these sheep hunts are done via backpack. Horses can be used to travel from camp to the sheep ranges and some long rides can be expected. These hunts will be based out of comfortable camps with cabins throughout the area but be prepared to travel with a spike camp, this will ensure a better success rate as the sheep move to different ranges. Spike camps are necessary to help you stay close to the action.
Many hunters will also seek to take down another species such as caribou, moose or grizzly on these hunts, as the tags for all of these species are included in the price of the hunt! Additional species are subject to fees upon the harvest of the animal.
