HUNT DETAILS:
Archery Elk:
From September 1–30, archery elk hunts take place in a wall tent camp on Wyoming's Bighorn National Forest. Located at 7,000 feet in the scenic Tongue River drainage, the camp features a 16x20 cook tent for meals and 12x14 wall tents with wood stoves, padded cots, and lanterns for a comfortable stay. Guides excel in locating bugling bulls, calling them in, and providing thrilling encounters. Spot-and-stalk, blinds, and tree stands are also used. Hunters access areas via pick-ups or ATVs, then proceed on foot, so good physical fitness enhances the experience. Bulls average 280–320 inches, with opportunities for larger ones. These are 1x1 guided hunts, offering a 90–100% shot opportunity most years. Horses are available for packing elk if needed.
Rifle Elk:
Rifle elk hunts run from October 10–November 5 in the same Bighorn National Forest wall tent camp as the archery hunts. Early-season hunts may feature bugling action, while later hunts involve glassing from vantage points to locate bulls. Bulls typically form bachelor groups, and cold, snowy weather increases visibility. Resident elk remain in the area year-round, with bulls averaging 280–320 inches and some exceeding 350 inches. Success rates average 75%, with 100% shot opportunity most years. These are 2x1 guided hunts. The changing weather and potential for bugling add excitement, making this hunt a memorable experience.
ACCOMODATIONS:
The camp offers a cozy and well-equipped setup for hunters. Meals are prepared and served in a spacious 16x20 cook tent, providing a welcoming space to relax and enjoy hearty food. Accommodations include 12x14 wall tents designed for comfort, featuring custom wood stoves for warmth, padded cots for restful sleep, and lanterns for lighting. These thoughtful amenities ensure that your stay is both comfortable and practical, allowing you to focus fully on the hunting experience. Located in the scenic Tongue River drainage at 7,000 feet, the camp provides the perfect base for an unforgettable hunting adventure in the Bighorn National Forest.
LICENSE PROCESS:
In Wyoming, hunting licenses for all seasons are issued through a draw, with the application deadline typically at the end of January. Each unit and season require varying preference points to secure a license. These hunts are conducted in units 37, 38, and 39, which generally need 5–13 preference points to draw successfully. To assist with the application process, Huntin’ Fool License Application Service is available to help you navigate the requirements and ensure your application is submitted on time. With their support, you can maximize your chances of obtaining a license and enjoying a memorable hunting experience.
