Description

This HFA Endorse Outfitter offers a cabin based moose hunt you won't want to miss. Alaska Moose hunts can be more challenging than many hunters expect. Much of the challenge coms from wet, nasty, marsh type country these creatures inhabit. Regardless of whether the bulls are in the foothills, or the swamps, the country is likely to be choked with alder, willow, and every other imaginable obstacle, not to mention the water, and the ever present mud that lives to suck the hip boots right off your feet. While the country does provide a challenge, this extra effort is always worth it when you finally have the opportunity to see one of the most impressive big game species on the planet. These moose are gigantic animals, weighing up to 1800 pounds, and standing around seven feet at the shoulder. Racks can go 80 inches, although 60 inches is considered very respectable. Simply seeing one of these magnificent animals up close is a once in a truly special experience no big game hunter wants to miss out on.

These moose hunts are currently focused from late August through September 20th and occasionally the 25th within Game Management Units 19 C and 16 B with the predominant method of hunting being a spot and stalk approach, rather than calling. Calling is fun, and it is great if you are in an area with 50 yard visibility, but this outfitter will work to get you in more open country where bulls can be spotted at considerable distances and a well thought out stalk planned and executed. Of course you will make use of calling for all it’s worth, especially when you get into the later September hunts!

After arriving in Anchorage, you can expect one night in the city prior to flying to your base camp in the field. Once in the field will stay in rustic cabin for your base camp, with the option to spike out in Hilleberg tents, depending on the situation. Days start early with a quick breakfast and a hike to nearby glassing locations. Lunches and snacks will be provided in the field while you are looking for the Moose. If you find a shooter, you will work with your guide to determine the best stalking approach to make your shot. At the end of the day, you will return to base camp for a meal and some planning for the next day. Once you have harvested, you will make plans to return to Anchorage for another night in the city prior to departure.

You can rest easy knowing the outfitter is going to take care of all the planning for this hunt. They will provide accommodations in Anchorage before and after the hunt as well as plan all of the food and lodging while in the field. They will even pick you up and drop you off directly at the Anchorage Airport for your flights, so no need to worry about any transportation once you arrive. This outfitter has you covered!
