ABOUT OUTFITTER:
This HFA Endorsed Outfitter is a family-run business that offers a unique and warm atmosphere that is comforting for the seasoned hunter and encouraging for first-time hunters as well. Their staff often consists of the husband and wife working together in a family environment. This helps them to keep the family feel when you walk through the front door. They have been in business for over 40 years and have what it takes to get it done! They have an excellent lodge staff and team of guides that work hard to make your stay comfortable and memorable. Each year many of their clients return to enjoy a different type of hunt combined with awesome southern hospitality. The owners are native to North Carolina, which has allowed them to hunt and track all of the game in their area such as whitetail deer, black bear, wild hog, and eastern turkey.
HUNT DETAILS:
The bears in this area are big! On top of that, this area has the highest concentration of bears in the world per square mile. That doesn’t always mean that everyone will kill an above average bear, but the opportunity is present to harvest a big bear, and if a client holds out, there’s a good chance at harvesting one of these bruins. The average size/weight in this area is 472 lbs. Some of these bears will weigh more than 700 lbs, and the area has produced the current record bear coming in at 800lbs. Again, this is due to the due to mild winters, and the bears having a very limited (if any) hibernation period allowing for almost year round growth.
The terrain consists of huge tracts of farmland, with corn and soybean fields surrounding the area. There are also several National Wildlife Refuges in every direction that assure an endless supply of bears that will use the outfitters’ property. This area is a “natural bait” only state therefore they use corn and peanuts to lure in the bears. To assure multiple bears are using their stands when you arrive, they bait year round. With so many bears using the same baited areas they will stay active all day long moving from stand to stand to get their chance to feed. The outfitter welcomes archery, muzzleloader, rifle, shotgun and handgun hunters. They only run a total of 4 weeks each year for their bear hunts, and allow only 6-10 hunters each week. Considering the size of their area and the number of bears per square mile, they don’t even scratch the surface. This makes for phenomenal hunting opportunities.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
Lodging for this hunt is based out of a local Motel. Upon booking your hunt, the outfitter will reserve a room for your stay. Hunters will be transported to their stand each day from the Motel. Expect approximately 50 degree temps with the possibility of rain.
For non-hunting/observers individuals or those who would like to explore the other options other than hunting, they offer a wide range of other outdoor activities that can be arranged. Activities such as canoeing, wildlife photography, wildlife viewing, hiking, camping, target shooting and skeet, and fishing. You can also try your hand at coastal water shrimping.
To ensure the best opportunities they try to take small groups, so early reservations are recommended for this hunt. These hunts take place primarily between the months of November and December each year.
LICENSE INFORMATION:
Bear Management E-Stamps can be purchased online through the North Carolina Wildlife website. You will need to coordinate with HFA or your outfitter prior to purchasing to ensure you purchase the required tag and licenses.
