HUNT DETAILS:
Hunting the Mid-Caucasian Tur is a demanding yet unforgettable adventure for seasoned mountain hunters. The combination of extreme terrain, a prestigious trophy, and the raw beauty of the Russian Caucasus makes this experience one of the most rewarding challenges in mountain hunting.

The Mid-Caucasian Tur inhabits some of the most remote and physically demanding terrain in the Caucasus Mountains of Russia. This hunt is recommended only for hunters in excellent physical condition, as it involves challenging ascents and extended days in rugged, high-altitude environments. The Mid-Caucasian Tur is a highly respected mountain trophy that counts toward both the Ovis and Capra World Slams.

Hunting begins from fly camps set at elevation, with backpack hunting being the standard approach. Horses are rarely available in this region, and mobility is almost entirely dependent on the hunter’s own stamina and endurance.

Rams are typically found in remote alpine country around 9,000 feet, though some may inhabit timbered terrain at approximately 7,000 feet. Temporary tented spike camps are established at around 8,000 feet to offer access to high-value areas and reduce daily vertical gain. Physical preparedness is a key factor in the success of the stalk and the overall experience.

Hunters fly into Moscow International Airport, where a support team provides assistance with customs clearance and transfers to a hotel. The next morning, a domestic flight brings hunters closer to the hunting grounds.

The hunting season runs from August 1 to November 30, covering a range of seasonal conditions ideal for mountain hunting.

Due to the elevation and surrounding glaciers, temperature fluctuations can be significant, and afternoon fog is a frequent occurrence. August to Mid-September: Daytime: 77–80°F (25–27°C), Nighttime: 35–40°F (2–4°C), Mid-September to October: Daytime: 50–59°F (10–15°C), Nighttime: 15–23°F (-9 to -5°C). Snowfall at higher elevations is common as early as the first week of September.

ACCOMMODATIONS:
Accommodations are functional and modest, consisting of basic hunting cabins and tented spike camps. The primary focus is proximity to game and high-altitude accessibility.
