Description
ABOUT OUTFITTER:
This HFA Endorsed Outfitter is a multi-generational, family-run operation rooted deeply in the Idaho backcountry. Based in Challis, the family lives and breathes the hunting lifestyle, with each member playing a vital role in the business. The parents have decades of guiding experience, while their two sons represent the fourth generation to hunt and fish the same rugged terrain. They’ve built a respected reputation offering guided hunts and fishing trips throughout the Frank Church Wilderness and Salmon River Mountains. Together, they maintain a strong string of horses and mules, clear trails, and prepare year-round to give each client a safe, memorable wilderness experience. The family's deep connection to the land and commitment to stewardship is evident in everything they do, from maintaining gear and stock to ensuring ethical hunting practices. Their hands-on approach and long-standing roots make this outfitter one of the most respected names in Idaho backcountry adventure.
HUNT DETAILS:
This HFA endorsed outfitter offers a truly wild and authentic mountain goat hunting experience in the rugged Salmon River Mountains of Idaho. Hunting these incredible animals is not for the faint of heart—steep, unforgiving terrain, high elevations, and physically demanding days define this adventure. But for those up to the challenge, the reward is a breathtaking experience chasing one of North America’s most iconic big game species.
This outfitter guides in two of Idaho’s roughly twenty mountain goat units and has spent years clearing trails and establishing reliable access deep into goat country—made possible only by the use of seasoned horses and mules. They emphasize booking early, especially for those who draw tags, as it allows their team to prepare trails and scouting efforts ahead of the season. Goats are typically hunted later in the season, after they've grown their thick winter coats, making for more striking trophies.
Clients enjoy a 100% success rate with this outfitter, and every effort is made to locate mature billies. Since goat horn length varies little between sexes, identifying and harvesting billies is essential to help maintain Idaho’s conservative tag allocations. Spotting a lone billy perched on a cliff at 10,000 feet, framed by snow-dusted peaks, is a vision that will stay with hunters forever. For those seeking a high-adventure, high-reward experience in true wilderness, this Idaho mountain goat hunt is second to none.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
Stay at a remote spike camp, with meals prepared over an open fire or using Mountain House provisions.
LICENSE INFORMATION:
Idaho allocates permits through a random draw with no points system. Applications are due throughout the spring with exact deadlines dependent on species. Tags left over after the first drawing will go into a second drawing, which takes place in the summer. Huntin' Fool's License Application team will help you apply at the time of application. In some cases, outfitter allocated tags are provided by the outfitter if purchasing a hunt.
