ABOUT OUTFITTER:
This HFA Endorsed Outfitter hunts Crookii Mule Deer on 100,000+ acres of private land, as well as other ranches that they have access to. With exclusive hunting rights on their properties, they can limit the number of deer harvested in order to provide clients an opportunity to harvest the best bucks. These management practices have allowed them to maintain control of their ranches and quality, and also increase the percentage of hunters harvesting trophy bucks. In fact, their hunters have enjoyed 100% success rates on Crookii Mule Deer since the first deer they hunted back in 2008.

HUNT DETAILS:
The Crooki mule deer, a subspecies native to northern Mexico, is renowned for its resilience in arid desert terrains. Hunting these deer in regions like Chihuahua offers a unique and challenging experience for those chasing mule deer. Because Crookii mule deer hunts take place on private ranches and are well-managed, hunting pressure is low, allowing bucks to reach mature trophy-class sizes for the species.

In the lower foothill landscapes of Chihuahua, hunts are conducted on privately owned, free-range lands. Mature bucks often boast impressive racks, featuring 3 to 5 points per side, and good mass. Deer populations aren't crazy high, however, this experienced outfitter has dialed in techniques, allowing hunters on a typical 5-day hunts to potentially see around 10 or more bucks. The main method of hunting is glassing and then Spot-and-Stalk. Once a mature buck is located, hunters move in on foot for a careful stalk. The desert terrain is open and challenging, requiring patience, stealth, and long-range shooting skills to close the distance.

Hunting Crookii mule deer in Chihuahua, is different from hunting other deer species due to several unique challenges and environmental factors. Unlike whitetail deer in forested areas or typical mule deer in mountainous regions, Crookii mule deer inhabit vast, arid desert landscapes with little cover. The terrain consists of rocky ridges, deep canyons, rolling mesquite flats, and open grasslands, requiring hunters to rely on long-range glassing and strategic stalking rather than sitting in a stand or blind. The desert environment supports lower deer populations compared to other mule deer habitats. Hunters may cover miles of land and glass for hours before spotting a mature buck. This makes patience, endurance, and top-quality optics essential for success. Due to the wide-open terrain and lack of thick vegetation, shots are often taken at long distances (200-500+ yards). Unlike hunting whitetails in close quarters or even mule deer in more broken country, Crookii mule deer hunts demand precision shooting skills and flat-shooting rifles. Crookii mule deer are incredibly wary and well-adapted to the desert. They are smaller-bodied but often sport impressive racks compared to other mule deer subspecies. Their survival instincts are sharp due to constant predator pressure, making them more elusive and difficult to approach.

Hunters can expect antler size to be between 25" to 30" wide, with tine length somewhere around 6" to 12". Good mass throughout is also expected, especially on older bucks. Overall, hunters will be hunting for high-quality bucks on well-managed private ranches . Bucks will score in the 140"-160" class on average. Most mature bucks harvested are 5.5 to 7.5 years old, as they need time to reach their full genetic potential.
