HUNT DETAILS:
Hunting the Caucasian Chamois is an immersive experience that combines the thrill of mountain pursuit with the solitude and beauty of North Ossetia’s high country. It remains one of the most exclusive and rewarding hunts in the world for the dedicated mountain hunter. The Caucasian Chamois is a shy and elusive mountain species, known for retreating into nearly inaccessible terrain when alarmed. Resembling a cross between a mountain goat and an antelope, Chamois are native to the high-altitude regions of Asia and Europe. They are rarely seen below 5,500 feet and can inhabit elevations up to 13,000 feet.

Hunting the Caucasian Chamois offers a unique blend of challenging spot-and-stalk hunting and breathtaking mountain scenery. This species is recognized for the Capra World Slam, and the only place in the world where it can be legally hunted is the Russian republic of North Ossetia. All Chamois hunts are conducted entirely on foot. Mature males are typically located in remote alpine zones around 7,500 feet. Each day involves glassing the upper mountain edges, hillsides, and known feeding or bedding areas with field optics.

Once a suitable trophy is located, the stalk is completed on foot, requiring a good level of physical fitness. Temporary tented spike camps are set up in strategic locations to target specific animals or regions with minimal travel during peak hunting times. Hunters begin their journey by flying into Moscow International Airport, where they are met by a local support team for customs assistance and hotel transfer. The following morning includes a short domestic flight to camp.

The season runs from August 1 to November 30, providing opportunities during both late summer and fall conditions.

The high altitude and surrounding glaciers contribute to dramatic temperature fluctuations and unpredictable weather. August to Mid-September: Daytime: 77–80°F (25–27°C), Nighttime: 35–40°F (2–4°C), Mid-September to October: Daytime: 50–59°F (10–15°C), Nighttime: 15–23°F (-9 to -5°C). Afternoon fog is common, and snowfall can occur at higher elevations as early as the first week of September. Weather can shift quickly—days often begin under clear, sunny skies and transition by midday into thick mist and sudden rain showers.

ACCOMMODATIONS:
Comfortable hunting cabins are located at approximately 6,500 feet, offering basic but functional lodging close to the hunting areas.
