Description
This Alpine Ibex hunt would be best described as an "Exclusive Opportunity"! This area of the European Alps is home to the only Alpine Ibex population in South America, with only 2-3 tags available each year. This is a fair chase hunt for free range Alpine Ibex in some of the most amazing mountains and terrain you'll set foot on in Argentina. How did these ibex get here? In the early 1970's these Alpine Ibex were living inside of a preserve and escaped into the nearby mountain ranges. Since that time, the herds have flourished, growing into a healthy and sustainable free-range herd. This outfitter has exclusivity to the hunting and tags, and is the only outfitter in Argentina that has the legal right to hunt them. In 2017 aerial surveys were completed, and it was then that it was determined that they could be hunted. The Ibex population is estimated to be at around 500-600 billies, nannies, and kids.
These hunts are all conducted on private land consisting of approximately 20,000 acres. Access on foot into these hunting areas is accomplished by way of local relationships through the natives. This access allows hunters to enter certain parts of the hunting areas that would otherwise be difficult to get to.
This is a physical, but do-able hunt for all physical classifications of hunters. The option for use of a helicopter is available for hire (approx. $2,000) to navigate to the top of the mountains, and if needed or wanted, Horses are also optional. Sometimes this hunt requires staying on the top of the mountain in a spike camp depending on where the ibex are located. If this happens, it's usually only a night or two. The outfitter will provide everything necessary if this option is utilized.
The accommodations and scenery are some of the best in the world. It offers the best in food, service and atmosphere with a complete fine dining experience offering unique, regional dishes that are sure to please. It is located on the lake district of Patagonia near San Martin de los Andes. It is different from any other Patagonia location due to the microenvironment created around the lakes. The area has many streams, rivers and lakes that are loaded with brook, rainbow and brown trout, and are ideal for fly fishing.
NOTE: After the Alpine Ibex hunt is completed, the option of hunting additional species is available. Monster red stags, Mouflon, Fallow Deer, and Pere David Deer are available to hunt on a trophy fee basis. These hunts are conducted on world renowned estate hunting concession nearby.
