Alaska Moose Hunting 2024

The 2024 season was no exception in Alaska as dozens and dozens of absolute giant moose were once again harvested. Moose numbers in the southwestern portion of the state continue to thrive, and transported hunt opportunities are plentiful. The old adage to remember is that “nothing lasts forever.” Harsh winter mortality or regulatory changes can surface at any time in Alaska.

Alaska Moose Hunting Draw

When considering a moose hunt in Alaska, a prospective hunter should determine their budget and desired adventure type before selecting an area to hunt. While most units in the state are managed by over-the-counter harvest tickets, some draw only permit units are available. The draw areas are usually created to limit hunting pressure, not to manage for trophy-sized moose. Hunters should be able to embark on a hunt that fits their expectations anywhere in the state.

With the rising costs of fuel and insurance, charter plane flights are more expensive than they have ever been in the past. There is no such thing as a “budget” moose hunt for non-locals. The hunt packages offered by licensed transporters will be between $8,000-$15,000 per hunter when they include logistics, fuel, transportation, etc., and a minimum of two hunters is often required. While this cost may seem high for a self-guided hunt, it’s the reality that we now live in for hunting Alaska. Most quality transporters are booking three or more years in advance for drop-off hunts.

Moose hunting in Alaska has never been more popular than it is now. Those wishing to not tackle their own logistics should secure a moose hunt with Huntin’ Fool Adventures. Fully-outfitted hunts in Alaska are between $28,000 and $45,000. Hunters should start planning their hunt now, even if it is three or four years out.
